Tartan Day Symposium

Themes:  Scotland's "Year of Stories"; the 200th Anniversary of King George IV's visit to Edinburgh, which kicked off the "highland revival"; and the 250th anniversary of the birth of Sir Walter Scott, who orchestrated the King's 1822 visit. Event to be held remotely, via Zoom.

There will be brief Tartan Day greetings from Scottish heritage groups across the USA, as well as a video clip of a BBC TV interview by Fiona Armstrong with the Duke of Buccleuch, Chief of Clan Scott, at his ancestral home of Bowhill, about the enduring legacy of Sir Walter Scott. Our Symposium Keynote speaker: Noted Sir Walter Scott scholar, Prof. Caroline McCracken-Fleisher, University of Wyoming.

Other speakers include Giles Ingram, Abbotsford, and Phil Long, National Trust for Scotland, USA.  The program also includes a panel discussion: Officers of the Clan Scott Society and the Clan Gregor Society will discuss the importance of the King's 1822 visit and the close, cordial relations that came out of it between Sir Walter Scott, who orchestrated it, and the then MacGregor Chief – bonds which have continued to this day between their respective clan societies.

RSVP and payment in advance required (PayPal, check, or credit card). Note that email addresses must be provided at the time of payment.  The Zoom link will then be sent to registrants by follow-up email.
