David Marsh becomes Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire
During Ceremony at British Ambassador’s Residence
December 6, 2015 –David Marsh was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in an investiture ceremony at the British Ambassador’s Residence on Thursday 3 December 2015.
The badge of the order was presented to Dr Marsh by Sir Peter Westmacott, British Ambassador, on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Dr Marsh, as Chairman of the British-American Business Association (BABA), has worked diligently to advance the transatlantic business partnership, including the benefits of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
British Ambassador to the United States Sir Peter Westmacott said:
“Business lies at the heart of the transatlantic relationship, and for 17 years David Marsh has played a key role in boosting trade and investment between our countries. I am delighted to present him with an MBE and congratulate him on this well-deserved honour.”
Upon accepting the title, Dr Marsh said:
“I’m honoured to receive an MBE as it reflects the importance of the work of the British American Business Association in promoting trade between the US and UK. I enjoy giving my time freely to the British American Business Association because its mission is vital to expanding free trading principles and the global marketplace – something that helps bring jobs and prosperity to both countries that I call home. ”
As Chairman of BABA, Dr Marsh hosted many roundtable discussions to promote the US-UK relationship bringing together US and UK counterparts and supported numerous Ministerial visit programmes. Among his achievements, he hosted in 2009 the highly successful Transatlantic Business Conference of the British-American Council, which is the largest transatlantic business network, with 21 chapters, including 2,500 member companies.
Dr Marsh is a partner and co-head of the Intellectual Property Practice at the International Law Firm Arnold & Porter LLP.
The UK honours system recognises exceptional achievement and service to the nation, and includes non-British nationals who receive 'Honorary' awards for their important contribution to British interests. All British honours are awarded on merit, and honorary awards are conferred by HM The Queen on the advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire was founded in 1917. Mr. Marsh may forthwith put “MBE” after his name if he wishes.
